EV charging: slow mode is all you need

There are basically two modes of EV charging: Fast mode and slow mode. Fast mode is where you want to use the car, are in a rush and are waiting for the charge to complete so you can continue on a journey. This is the mode used by people on roadtrips, people driving long distances away from home, people who don't have the ability to charge at home or fleet vehicles that are in continuous use.

Slow mode is when you don't need to immediately use the car and don't really care when or even if the charge completes. This is the mode used by people who charge at home, work, a hotel or the shops.

In fast mode, you're at the charger because you need the power now. In slow mode, you're at a specific location because you want or need to be there and there just happens to also be a charger there.

Fast mode is similar the traditional paradigm for fueling ICE cars: you are low on fuel, so you go to the gas station to quick buy some more. Slow mode is unique to EVs and frees you from having to take detours to get more energy from your vehicle.

For many people, especially those that can charge at home or work, slow mode is really all you need.
