Hello friends!

Time sure flies when you have a young baby. Yesterday was day 100 of my daily writing streak. This evening, I was (trying) to teach baby to brush his two teeth with a tiny baby toothbrush for the first time.

I hope you enjoy my posts from the past week.

Yours,
Larry

[Encourage users to look under the hoodYesterday, at the DHH-meetup in Shenzhen, the MC asked DHH what people like himself "who are not developers" should learn about their vibe coded Omarchy extensions when they don't work. DHH responded that they shouldn't need to know how it works. I understand where DHH is coming![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/icon/favicon-9a0ceb7e-8b75-4ec5-b9b9-897b3aeeea08.png)Larry SalibraLarry Salibra![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/thumbnail/JieFW-95456450-dc78-49f6-a044-e2b0ebfa35aa.jpg)](https://larrysalibra.com/encourage-users-to-look-under-the-hood/)

[AI conference slopI attended the GOSIM Shenzhen 2026 open source conference in Shenzhen today. The headline event for me was DHH's Omarchy talk and the post-conference Omarchy meetup. They didn't disappoint. DHH can be a polarizing figure, but whatever side of his opinions you fall on, one thing that![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/icon/favicon-0c551cdd-a7e6-4c99-b786-1f9041276dee.png)Larry SalibraLarry Salibra![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/thumbnail/AA331A38-E194-4A80-9D56-915CDBDAEF20-0a8721f1-5ba2-485d-b5dc-de23dff1091e.jpg)](https://larrysalibra.com/ai-conference-slop/)

[The world runs on trustWhen I joined my sailing club in Hong Kong, my seconder, when signing my application in support of my membership, said to me "clubs run on trust." [Will AI mean less variance in the world? When asked to pick a random number, humans tend to pick the number 7 more than the other numbers. Because LLMs are trained on human output, they take this bias and turn it into what almost amounts to a rule. Go ask your favorite LLM to pick a random number![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/icon/favicon-b15d4f4a-a6bf-49bc-b43e-304a342dc208.png)Larry SalibraLarry Salibra![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/thumbnail/HUgo1I-XYAA3V62-a3d0e730-4ebd-4bd5-8708-3ba8fed2209a.jpg)](https://larrysalibra.com/will-ai-mean-less-variance-in-the-world/)

[It's time for Hong Kong bus companies to ditch dieselThe SCMP writes: Four Hong Kong franchised bus operators have applied to raise fares by up to 17.7 per cent, citing “significant financial pressure” from soaring fuel prices driven by the Middle East conflict. [How to pick a good landlordI've had at least a dozen landlords over the course of my adult life and I've had a good, or at least amicable, working relationship with all of them. [Western food in China is better than in the WestTwo and a half decades ago when I first visited China and the Chinese mainland, the Western-food situation was bleak. Besides a few famous Western-owned global food chains and international hotels, white (or black or brown)-person food was not wildly available, and when it was, usually not![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/icon/favicon-e40fbc57-3ddb-4f72-b5aa-1a30a3299a8d.png)Larry SalibraLarry Salibra![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e4/74/e474b4cb-cbee-4c30-844d-ae523b708967/content/images/thumbnail/IMG_6429-caa41b53-d1e9-4287-a40b-9e1350193c68.jpg)](https://larrysalibra.com/western-food-in-china-is-better-than-in-the-west/)
