White Africans from the British Empire

Living in what was once a British colony, reminders of the empire are everywhere and often what you'd expect. We drive on the wrong side of the road, there are some coins that have the Queen on them in circulation and the judges wear funny wigs. There's also reminders in the population. As one would expect, there are still a large number of (aging) white English people living in Hong Kong who moved here before the handover and never left. There are also large numbers of South Asians and people from other places Britain has colonized that found their way to Hong Kong and made this their home.

But there's another smaller group of people that one doesn't often think about that also ended up in Hong Kong...white Africans . These are people whose parents were white British people that were born in one of the British Empire's numerous African colonies: places like Zambia or Zimbabwe. They always have some of the most interesting life stories about the path they took to ending up in Hong Kong. Sometimes their paths are long and winding traversing several Commonwealth countries before settling in Asia's World City.

Empires come and go but their fingerprints on the world and its inhabitants never truly fade away.
